Lohara Relaxed Fit: Sizing and Care

Lohara relaxed fit batik shirt shown on a model

A relaxed-fit shirt is not just a bigger shirt. Lohara is measured differently from a standard batik shirt, and if you size it the way you normally would, you will get it wrong.

A relaxed cut is designed to hang away from the body — that is the intended shape, not a sizing error.

How Lohara is measured

Two numbers, and neither is a chest circumference:

  • Length — measured from the back of the collar straight down.
  • Width — measured flat, armpit to armpit. Double it for the full chest measurement.

Tolerance is about one centimetre either way, which is normal for cut-and-sew production.

The size chart

  • S — 72 x 48 cm
  • M — 74 x 50 cm
  • L — 76 x 52 cm
  • XL — 78 x 54 cm
  • XXL — 80 x 58 cm
  • XXXL — 80 x 62 cm

For reference, the model in the product photographs is 173 cm and 70 kg, wearing size M. That is the most useful single data point on this page — compare yourself against it before anything else.

The easiest way to get it right

Do not measure your body. Measure a shirt you already own and like, laid flat:

  1. Lay it flat and smooth out the wrinkles.
  2. Measure armpit to armpit — that is your width.
  3. Measure from the base of the collar to the hem — that is your length.
  4. Match those to the chart, allowing a centimetre either way.

This works because it compares like with like. Body measurements do not tell you how much room a shirt is cut with.

Should you size up or down?

Take your normal size. The relaxed room is already designed into the cut — sizing up on top of that gives you a shirt that overwhelms you rather than one that drapes.

Size up only if you specifically want an oversized look, or if your usual shirt already feels tight across the chest.

The shoulder is the one thing to be careful about, as always — relaxed through the body is intentional, but a shoulder seam hanging halfway down your arm is simply too big. Our short-sleeve guide covers the general principles.

Caring for it

Lohara is unlined single-layer cotton with a printed batik pattern, which means it is easy to look after but rewards a gentle routine:

  • Hand wash is recommended to protect the fabric and keep the colour.
  • Use a mild detergent. Strong formulas strip colour.
  • Never use bleach. On patterned cloth it removes the pattern, not just the stain.
  • Dry in the shade, away from direct sun, which is what fades bright grounds fastest.

For a spill, see removing stains from batik; for pressing and storage, ironing and storing batik.

If the size is wrong

Lohara accepts size exchanges, with the customer covering shipping. If there is a production defect, Lohara covers the return and re-shipping.

Record an unboxing video. Returns are accepted within three days of receiving the item and require a complete unboxing video, so film it before you open the packaging — it takes a few seconds and it is the difference between a straightforward exchange and a difficult one.

Two things that are normal, not faults

  • Motif placement differs between shirts. Pattern is cut from a roll, so no two pieces are identical.
  • Pattern arrangement changes with size. A design on XL will not sit exactly as it does on M.

Hand wash with a mild detergent, never bleach, and dry in the shade.

Can I exchange the size?
