Mandalas ships authentic Indonesian batik and kebaya from Jakarta to customers around the world. Singapore and Malaysia are our largest international markets, and we deliver across Southeast Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Europe and North America.

All our international prices are DDU — Delivered Duty Unpaid. Any import duty or tax charged by your own country is paid by you on arrival and is not included in the price at checkout.

In practice most of our customers pay nothing, because both Malaysia and Singapore exempt low-value parcels. The section below explains the thresholds and how to stay within them.

Where we ship

Our most frequent international destinations are:

  • Singapore — our largest international market. Short transit from Jakarta, and particularly popular for kebaya and Peranakan styles.
  • Malaysia — strong demand for kebaya, sarimbit sets and Raya occasion wear, with orders across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
  • Brunei and the Philippines — regular regional destinations.
  • Australia
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom, United States and Canada — largely Indonesian diaspora and collectors.

If your country is not listed, it may still be available at checkout — select your destination to see the options.

Delivery times

  • Singapore — 3 to 5 working days
  • Malaysia — 4 to 7 working days
  • Rest of world — 10 to 14 working days

These are transit estimates from dispatch, not from the moment you order. During Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and the year-end period both production and courier networks run at capacity, so allow extra time if your order is for a specific date.

Shipping rates

Singapore and Malaysia — typically under IDR 100,000, which is roughly SGD 8, MYR 26 or USD 6 at current rates.

Rest of world — between USD 10 and USD 50 per kilogram, depending on distance.

Exact shipping cost is calculated at checkout once you select your destination. Currency equivalents above are approximate and move with exchange rates.

Duty and tax: what you may pay on arrival

Because we ship DDU, import duty and tax are your responsibility. Most countries, however, set a de minimis threshold — a value below which a courier parcel clears without duty or import tax. Staying under it is usually the difference between paying nothing and paying tax on the entire order.

Malaysia — RM500 per consignment, by air courier

Goods arriving by air courier with a CIF value of RM500 or less are exempt from import duty and sales tax.

  • CIF means cost, insurance and freight — the goods plus shipping and insurance, not the item price alone. A RM470 order with RM60 shipping is over the line at import.
  • Air courier only. Parcels arriving by road or sea are not eligible for the de minimis and are assessed on arrival regardless of value.

Singapore — S$400 per shipment, by air or post

Singapore charges 0% import duty on clothing, so GST is the only consideration. Goods imported by air or post with a CIF value of S$400 or less are not subject to GST at the point of import.

  • Above S$400, GST applies to the whole value, not only the amount above the threshold. An order that lands slightly over the line is taxed on all of it.

One thing not to do

Splitting a large order into several parcels to sit under a threshold does not work, and can cause delays. Customs assesses consignments arriving together as one — three parcels totalling S$450 are assessed at S$450, not as three separate low-value shipments.

If you are ordering several pieces and the total will sit near the line, it is usually better to place separate orders spaced apart in time than to split one shipment.

Thresholds and rates are set by your government and can change. If your order is close to a threshold and it matters to you, check your own customs authority before ordering, or ask us and we will help you structure it.

How to order from overseas

  1. Choose your pieces. Browse men's batik, women's kebaya and batik, or matching sarimbit sets.
  2. Check your size. Indonesian sizing runs smaller than European and American sizing. See the guidance below before ordering.
  3. Select your country at checkout. Shipping options and costs appear there.
  4. Track your order. Follow your parcel on our tracking page.

Sizing for international customers

This is the most common question we receive from overseas buyers. Indonesian garment sizing generally runs one to two sizes smaller than European or American equivalents, and batik shirts are cut closer to the body than a standard Western dress shirt.

Rather than ordering by your usual letter size, measure a shirt you already own and like the fit of — chest, shoulder, sleeve and body length — and compare those numbers against the size chart on the product page. If you are between sizes, size up: a shirt can be taken in, but shoulders cannot be let out.

Our guide to ordering batik from abroad covers sizing, choosing pieces and timing in more detail.

Sending batik as a gift

Batik travels well as a gift — light, unbreakable, and carrying genuine cultural meaning. Popular choices include a premium long-sleeve shirt, an embroidered kebaya, or a matching sarimbit set for a couple or family.

If you are buying for someone else and unsure of their size, a classic motif in a neutral colour is the safer choice.

Frequently asked questions

Do you ship to Singapore and Malaysia?

Yes — they are our two largest international markets. Singapore typically takes 3 to 5 working days and Malaysia 4 to 7.

Will I pay customs duties when my parcel arrives?

Possibly. We ship DDU, so any duty or import tax charged by your country is paid by you and is not included in the checkout price. Both Malaysia and Singapore exempt low-value parcels — RM500 and S$400 respectively — so most orders arrive without further charges. See the duty and tax section above.

What is the duty-free threshold for Malaysia?

RM500 CIF per consignment, for parcels arriving by air courier. CIF includes shipping and insurance, not just the goods, and parcels arriving by road or sea do not qualify.

What is the duty-free threshold for Singapore?

S$400 CIF per shipment by air or post. Clothing carries 0% import duty in Singapore, so GST is the only consideration — and above S$400 it applies to the entire value, not just the excess.

Can I split my order to stay under the threshold?

No. Customs assesses consignments arriving together as a single shipment, so splitting one order into several parcels does not reduce the assessment and can cause delays.

How much is international shipping?

Usually under IDR 100,000 (about SGD 8 or MYR 26) to Singapore and Malaysia, and USD 10 to USD 50 per kilogram elsewhere depending on distance. The exact cost appears at checkout.

How do I know which size to order?

Indonesian sizing runs smaller than Western sizing. Measure a garment you already own and compare against the size chart; if between sizes, size up.

Can I return an international order?

Yes. Please contact our customer support and we will assist you.

How long will delivery take?

Singapore 3 to 5 working days, Malaysia 4 to 7, and the rest of the world 10 to 14, measured from dispatch.
